Information, Advice and Guidance

Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) is an important cross-sector area of work for Progress South Central.

Many agencies and institutions are engaged in delivering or supporting IAG for learners and employers across the region. All have different expertise, opportunities and constraints, and vocational learning, in particular, is a continually developing field. The role of Progress South Central is to support the current services within our area and to assist other agencies when there are gaps in the existing provision.

To this end, Progress South Central is currently undertaking the following IAG work:

  • Cross LLN-working on the Learning Opportunities in the South East - web based information from four LLNs in the South East region. This service is available for potential adult vocational students in the South East of England and provides information, advice and guidance about study routes, career choice, finance, support and improving your skills before entering higher education. The website is: http://www.learning-opportunities.org.uk
  • Provision of funding for a 'Learner Adviser Award' for staff working within Adult and Community settings for Reading Borough Council - developing a blended e-learning approach we are making it more accessible for all the staff employed by New Directions including part time sessional tutors whatever their IAG role
  • Funding the Institute of Education at the University of Reading for research into the role and attitudes of secondary school staff in the provision of Post 16 Information, Advice and Guidance for Year 11 students to support the introduction of 14 - 19 diplomas

If you would like any further information regarding any of the above, please contact Jude Brindley via email on j.brindley@reading.ac.uk or on 0118 378 2339.
