Development of a Foundation degree in Writing for Performance

PROJECT SUMMARY
This project explored the potential for, and subsequently developed, a Foundation degree in vocational creative writing. Involved in the programme's development were the Pegasus Theatre, Oxford Playhouse, Writers in Prison and the Apples and Snakes performance poetry organisation. The programme was successfully validated by Open University Validation Services (OUVS) for commencement in 2010-11.
IMPACT
The Foundation degree is running for the first time in 2010-11. As at September 2010, a total of 22 full-time applications had been received, of which 15 had been converted into accepted offers. Additionally, 3 part-time applications were received, of which 2 have resulted in offers. There were 14 additional enquiries that did not lead to applications this year.
